Magic the Gathering!: PAX East Previewed Cards & New Mechanics

Afternoon!

If anyone else is following the live panel from PAX East that Wizards is doing, you’re starting to notice the previewed cards! Here’s the rundown of what cards have been revealed and some new information:

• New Mechanics include Soulbound and Miracle
• Soulbound: You may pair this creature with another unpaired creature when either enters the battlefield. They remain paired as long as you control both of them

I was right about Silverblade Paladin being some sort of Mirran Crusader!

Also. Super excited for this set and the next block!

Here’s why we’re excited about this:

1. iPad: This summer in addition to XBox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 is going to be available on iPad!

2. Planechase: Not only is Wizards of the Coast coming out with four new Planechase decks on June 1 (which introduce the new Phenomenon card type), but you’ll be able to play Planechase multiplayer games in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013!

3. Optional Manual Tapping of Lands: Although Duels of the Planeswalkers is mostly for people who are new to Magic, it’s a lot of fun for people who have been playing Magiclong enough to know what’s what. So for Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013, you can turn on an option to let you choose exactly which lands to tap!

4. New Decks; New Challenges: Naturally, a new Duels of the Planeswalkers means new decks to battle with and new puzzles to solve.

5. Meet the New Boss: The final battle in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 is someone you might recognize. Say hello to Magic’s ultimate evil mastermind, dragon Planeswalker Nicol Bolas!

FINALLY I CAN TAP MY OWN LAND!

After seeing a handful of different Magic: The Gathering score keeping note books and not finding one I really like, I decided to design my own.  I knew an easy way to bind your own note pad from an instructables submission I seen a while back.  I spent a few minutes in Photoshop and I came up with this.

It works perfect for what I need and visually it looks really nice.  After each game I take a snapshot of the result and load it into Evernote. 

This looks great! Do you have it in a PDF format that you would be willing to share?

well… kind of, but not really.

Some of the art has been revealed and so have the promo cards!

I have to say, the demon Grislbrand looks pretty bad ass, hopefully he isn’t an overcosted junk mythic. The buy a box promo sounds bad ass as well, maybe a new Mirran Crusader type creature?

Anyways here is the art that was spoiled earlier this week:

Remember, WotC has already stated that there will be no flashback cardsANDno double-faced cards in this last set. It will also be drafted on its own because it is such a big set.

Hopefully this set comes with some cool lands to abuse and some pretty bad ass spells/creatures. The same guy who developed Rise of Eldrazi worked on this set as well, so I crossing my fingers that it’s a sign of massive beaters (or combos?) to come.
